We were asked, for this task, to revisit the images we had chosen to explore for a previous task, and identify the negative spaces within the images.
Here are the images I chose:

- Camille Pissarro, Jeune Negresse Assiese
I have cross hatched the negative space in blue. It was easy to differentiate between the subject and the negative space, as the subject is clearly defined.

2. Richard Hambleton, Jumping Shadow, Boxing Shadow
The negative space was easily differentiated in this piece, and I have cross hatched it in purple. There are jagged edges around the subject. The dark silhouette of the subject makes a striking accentuation within the negative space around it. Especially as the silhouette is black,, and the space around is white.

3. George Shaw, The Passion: Number 57
It was complicated to differentiate between the subject and the negative space. The sky was easy to separate, but there are other areas which I was not sure about. The walls with the windows between could be identified as negative space.

4. Egon Schiele, Autumn Tree
There is a lot of negative space in this image, which I have shaded in red. There are leaves and thin branches, but the space is still identifiable. Egon Schiele has made an effective use of negative space, and it actually is the predominant feature of the image. I also enjoy the composition, with the tree on the right and its branches leading into the picture.
